What is Amaro Yerba?
Amaro Yerba is an Italian craft amaro made with Argentine yerba mate. It was born from the meeting of South American mate culture and the Italian liqueur-making tradition.
What is yerba mate?
Yerba mate, known by its botanical name Ilex paraguariensis, is a South American plant. Its leaves are used to prepare mate, an infusion tied to a daily ritual of sharing. It is the leading botanical of Amaro Yerba: more in our guide to yerba mate liqueur.
What is the best yerba mate liqueur?
That is for the drinker to judge. Amaro Yerba is an Italian amaro made with Argentine yerba mate alone and aged in oak barriques: it received 4 stars in the Spirito Autoctono guide, 2023 edition, and was selected among the Top 20 products by the expert tasting panel of Meininger Verlag, in the MIXOLOGY and ICE initiative at Bar Convent Berlin 2026.
What is the difference between amaro and liqueur?
Amaro is a bittersweet liqueur born in the Italian tradition, usually built on many herbs. Amaro Yerba follows its method with a single botanical, yerba mate: on the label it is a yerba mate liqueur, in the glass it is an amaro.
Has Amaro Yerba received any recognition?
Yes. 4 stars in the Spirito Autoctono guide, 2023 edition, and selection among the Top 20 products by the expert tasting panel of Meininger Verlag, in the MIXOLOGY and ICE initiative at Bar Convent Berlin 2026.
How is Amaro Yerba made?
The craft process begins with a cold infusion of Argentine yerba mate, together with its woody part, in a water and alcohol solution inside steel vats. This phase extracts its aromas. It is then aged in oak casks, which let the product breathe, mature and develop its aromatic profile.
What does it taste like?
Amaro Yerba has a vegetal, woody profile. On the nose, hay, tobacco and a light smoky note emerge. On the palate, the first spicy hints give way to notes of honey and the characteristic bitterness of yerba mate, reminiscent of tea leaves.
What is the alcohol content?
Amaro Yerba is 33% ABV.
Does it contain flavourings or additives?
Amaro Yerba is made without added flavourings or additives. Its aromatic profile comes from yerba mate and from the production and ageing process.
Does it contain caffeine?
Yes. Amaro Yerba contains caffeine naturally present in yerba mate. Its presence has been verified through analysis of the finished product.
Is it gluten-free?
Yes, Amaro Yerba is gluten-free.
Is it vegan?
Yes. Amaro Yerba is vegan and contains no ingredients of animal origin.
02Tasting and storage

Is it only for after dinner?
After a meal is one of its moments. Amaro Yerba also works at aperitivo time, in mixed drinks.
